The Important Things Of Toddler Language Development
By Sam Cyrus

Toddler language development may be seen at the ages between of 12 and 36 months. And there are some things you should know about this period. Children usually start basic communication in language in these times, and sometimes, problems may arise. That is why you need to be aware of your toddler language development.

Toddler Language Development – An Overview

There are certain steps of your toddler language development that occurs between the ages of 1 and 3.  You should not be alarmed if one child does not start speaking as early as the other as there are no strict rules of  this. Girls generally start speaking earlier than boys.

At 12 months, your child may have been babbling for a few week. He may use such simple words as mama, and start using words such as ball. Your toddler may also be able to understand simple instructions that are accompanied by gestures.

Your toddler language development may already be at a stage

after fifteen months. This is where he uses a few simple words, somewhere between 5 and 15, Your child may be able to follow commands even without gestures. And your toddler will be able to use around 20-50 words between 18 and 24 months. He will also understand much more. Between 24 and 36 months your toddler may already be using simple sentences and will learn new words every day and really rapidly, especially by the time he is 3 years old.

What Can You Do?

It is true that the toddler language development is a process that occurs quite naturally in a normal and healthy environment. However, there are several things you can do to help your toddler learn new words faster and more easily. It is recommended to talk and read to him a lot every day. You can also show him pictures and tell him what is on those pictures. Or taking him to the zoo and tell stories about the animals.

Narrating the simple events of one day to your toddler is also very effective. On the toddler language development, the narration can be about the day you spent together or repeat a lot. It can make him easier to learn new words and sentence constructions every day and to remember these as well. You can also introduce new words to him every day, such as names of flowers, or animals, any objects he sees. Try not to finish his sentences for him by waiting until he finds the suitable words. With these tips you can widen his horizon more and more every day and absolutely help your toddler language development.
